COVID-19 Eviction and Foreclosure Prevention Program

Governor Reynolds has allocated federal CARES Act funds to assist Iowans who have been economically impacted by COVID-19 and may be facing housing hardships. This program will provide short-term relief to income-eligible renters and homeowners who are at risk of eviction or foreclosure. Click here for more information.

Student Legal Services

Student Legal Services (SLS) provides free legal advice and low-cost representation to University of Iowa students on a variety of matters including but not limited to: criminal law, landlord/tenant law, small claims, consumer, divorce, and employment. Students can request appointments via the SLS website https://legal.studentlife.uiowa.edu, or by e-mailing student-legal@uiowa.edu.

 Staff is currently seeing students via Zoom and regularly posts relevant COVID-19 updates on its website and on social media (@UIStudentLegal).

Federal CARES Act Emergency Grant

UPDATE (5-28-20)
The application for CARES Act Emergency Grant funding which opened on May 4, 2020 is now closed due to the high volume of applications.  If you are still in need of financial assistance, you may be able to apply for support through the Dean of Students Emergency Grant.  To learn more about this grant option, visit the Dean of Students Student Support Initiatives website.

If you filed a 2019-2020 FAFSA and were awarded federal loans but have not yet accepted the loans, you may still be able to do so.  Go to your MyUI Financial Aid To Do List to determine if any documents are still missing for loan consideration.

University of Iowa Mobile Clinic

The University of Iowa Mobile Clinic is a student run organization that provides free point of care lab testing, education, flu vaccines, and basic healthcare to underserved populations in the Iowa City and surrounding areas.  As of now, due to coronavirus, we have cancelled all in person clinics but are offering free online and over the phone appointments for those in need.

Student Health Service

Student Health is open at the Westlawn location for normal hours of 8 AM to 5 PM Monday through Friday. Students can be seen for in-person visits during limited hours, and we've greatly expanded the resources for students to have a video or phone visit with our providers.

Nurseline RNs are standing by to help you, to answer questions and address concerns- call 319-335-9704 to reach us. Prescription refills may be extended as needed by calling the Nurseline or sending a MyChart request.

GoodRx

GoodRX offers free COVID-19 screening and triage.

GoodRX created an assessment based on CDC guidance to help you protect yourself and loved ones, and to know when to stay home and when to seek testing or medical attention.

Given the current shortage of testing availability and facilities, we currently are not ordering testing. However we can help determine if you need it and provide the information to contact your local health department.

This service includes:

  • Patient evaluation based on medical history, symptoms, and recent travel
  • Counseling and education based on CDC guidelines
  • Recommendations on how and when to use social distancing or home isolation
  • Advice for when to seek testing or urgent medical attention
