Students may qualify for Food Assistance if they are a US Citizen or Green card holder for at least five (5) years and fulfill one or more of the following:

  • Have dependents
  • Work at least 20 hrs a week
  • Qualify for or currently working in a federal work-study position
  • Are disabled or temporarily disable and are unable to work

If you feel like one or more of these may apply to you and you wish to learn more, contact Lisa Spitler (lspitler@northeastiowafoodbank.org), our local Food Assistance Outreach Specialist.  Applying does not cost you anything, and it usually only takes a few minutes of your time.

Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP)

Fruits, vegetables and other healthy foods can help you and your family be healthy and productive. Sometimes these healthy foods are expensive, and families need extra help purchasing them. To see if you are eligible for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), visit www.dhs.iowa.gov/how-to-apply.

If you already receive SNAP, you can now access your account information on the web
at https://www.connectebt.com/. There is no charge for using this online access. And, you can report any changes to your SNAP case at 1-877-347-5678.

The Agape Café will serve free, hot, to-go breakfast from 7:30 - 9:00 am every Wednesday morning at Old Brick (26 E Market Street Iowa City).

UI Food Pantry

UI Food Pantry

The food pantry is a free service available for ANY student, staff, or faculty member at the University of Iowa. There are no financial requirements. There are two food pantry locations. The east pantry is located in room 278 of the Iowa Memorial Union. The west pantry is located at the Pride Alliance Center. The food pantry is open every Wednesday at the east pantry for grocery shopping from 11-7 pm, and open every Sunday at the west pantry for food pick-up from 3-5 pm. In order to access these services, it is necessary to reserve an appointment using an online sign up located on the website linked below. Links can be found below.
