Volunteer with Food Pantry at Iowa!

Food Pantry at Iowa is a student-run organization dedicated to supporting the basic needs of our Hawkeye community. Volunteering with us is a semester-long commitment, but we offer flexible scheduling to fit around your academic priorities. We ask volunteers to commit at least 1 hour per week, with 2–4 hours per week qualifying for semester volunteer incentives. Most volunteers take a recurring shift once a week that lasts no more than 2 hours.

Volunteers can help during pantry operating hours and/or assist with inventory when deliveries arrive. During operating hours, you’ll supervise the pantry, greet, and assist clients. For inventory shifts, you’ll help receive donations at the IMU, weigh donated produce and toiletries, and stock the pantry shelves.

As a student organization, we also offer volunteers opportunities to participate in campus events such as the Homecoming Parade and student organization fairs.

All volunteers are required to complete FERPA training and attend a beginning-of-semester orientation to learn about duties, responsibilities, expectations, and our mission and values. If you join after orientation season, you’ll complete a 30-minute training provided by pantry staff or lead volunteers.

If you’re ready to make a difference on campus, email us at studorg-foodpantry@uiowa.edu to get started.
